Using Medicare for Therapy in Philadelphia (What to Know)

Turning Leaf Therapy does not accept Medicare or Medicaid, and out-of-network reimbursement generally does not apply to these plans, so care with us is self-pay at $130 to $200 per session. Note that the No Surprises Act Good Faith Estimate requirements do not apply to enrollees in Medicare, Medicaid, the Indian Health Service, Veterans Affairs health care, or TRICARE, which have their own billing protections (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).

What self-pay looks like here

Sessions run $130 to $200 per 53-minute session depending on the clinician, with exact rates shared during intake, before scheduling. Payment is by credit, debit, HSA, or FSA card at the time of service. Where your HSA or FSA is eligible, it can pay for therapy with pre-tax dollars.

A limited number of reduced-fee spots exist for clients experiencing financial hardship. Availability varies; if cost is a barrier, reach out so we can discuss options.

Why we do not suggest superbills for Medicare

For commercial PPO plans, we provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement. Out-of-network reimbursement generally does not apply to Medicare or Medicaid, so we will not point you toward a paperwork path that does not pay. Self-pay with us is a clear-eyed choice, and we would rather you make it with accurate expectations.

If self-pay is not workable

Lower-cost care exists in Philadelphia, including community mental health centers that accept Medicare and Medicaid. And if you are in crisis, do not navigate coverage at all: call or text 988, or call the Philadelphia Crisis Line at (215) 685-6440.

What we treat, and how payment works with Medicare and Medicaid

We are out of network with Medicare and Medicaid. Sessions are $130 to $200 self-pay, and we provide a superbill after every session that you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. We make no promises about what any plan will pay back; your insurer is the only source for that.

Anxiety

Panic, social anxiety, chronic worry, and the perfectionism underneath them are what anxiety therapy addresses here, working past coping skills to the history that trained the alarm. Because we are out of network with Medicare and Medicaid, these sessions are self-pay with a superbill provided each time.

Depression

Persistent low mood, loss of interest, and long-running depletion are treated in depression therapy as signals about your emotional and relational life rather than a symptom list. Self-pay applies, and each session generates a superbill you can submit to Medicare and Medicaid.

Trauma and PTSD

PTSD and complex PTSD are treated through phase-based trauma-informed therapy: stabilization first, then processing at your pace, with EMDR and parts work where they fit. Sessions are self-pay under Medicare and Medicaid, with superbills issued after each one.

Grief and loss

Bereavement, traumatic loss, perinatal loss, and grief no one else names are held in grief therapy without a timeline or a stage model. As an out-of-network practice for Medicare and Medicaid, we bill you directly and give you the paperwork to seek reimbursement.

Life transitions

Divorce, career change, parenthood, relocation, and retirement are the territory of life transitions therapy, which treats the change as exposing patterns you already carry. Self-pay rates apply, with a superbill after every session.

Relationships

Recurring relational patterns, boundaries, and rebuilding trust after betrayal are the focus of our individual relationship therapy. Because Medicare and Medicaid is out of network with us, you pay the session rate and submit superbills yourself.
