Using Cigna for Therapy in Philadelphia (Out-of-Network)

Turning Leaf Therapy is not in-network with Cigna, but many Cigna PPO members with out-of-network benefits are reimbursed 50 to 80 percent of the allowed amount per session after their out-of-network deductible. We provide a superbill after every session on request, which you submit for reimbursement, typically paid within two to four weeks.

How superbill reimbursement works

Three steps. First, you pay the session fee ($130 to $200, depending on the clinician) at time of service. Second, we provide a superbill, a detailed receipt with your diagnosis, the service provided, and CPT codes (90791 or 90837). Third, you submit it to Cigna through your member portal; if your plan includes out-of-network benefits, reimbursement typically arrives within two to four weeks.

Check whether your Cigna plan reimburses

Call the number on your card and ask: Do I have out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits? What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much is met? What percentage of the allowed amount is reimbursed? Is there a session limit? Where do I submit superbills? HMO and EPO plans generally have no out-of-network benefits; PPO plans usually do.

Other ways to make it work

HSA and FSA cards are accepted and can pay for sessions with pre-tax dollars. A limited number of reduced-fee spots exist for financial hardship. And if reimbursement matters more than fit, we will say so plainly: an in-network Cigna practice may serve you better, though few offer this depth of specialty care.

What we treat, and how payment works with Cigna

We are out of network with Cigna. Sessions are $130 to $200 self-pay, and we provide a superbill after every session that you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement. We make no promises about what any plan will pay back; your insurer is the only source for that.

Anxiety

Anxiety in its many forms, from panic to avoidance to health worry, is what anxiety therapy works on, treating the symptom as adaptive rather than defective. Since we do not participate in Cigna, these are self-pay sessions accompanied by superbills.

Depression

Depression and long-running low mood are addressed in depression therapy at the level of what the depression is protecting you from feeling. Self-pay rates apply because we are not in the Cigna network, and you receive a superbill each session.

Trauma and PTSD

Trauma treatment here begins with safety rather than the story, and our trauma-informed care integrates EMDR, IFS, and somatic work inside a relational frame. As an out-of-network provider for Cigna, we bill you and document each session for reimbursement claims.

Grief and loss

Grief work here attends to both the present loss and the older losses it reopens, which is often why grief feels larger than the event. Sessions are self-pay under Cigna, with a superbill after each. See grief therapy for how the work unfolds.

Life transitions

Adjustment distress after a move, a diagnosis, a divorce, or a retirement is the focus of life transitions therapy. Because Cigna is out of network, you pay directly and we provide reimbursement paperwork every time.

Relationships

Attachment patterns, people-pleasing, and difficulty trusting are treated in individual relationship therapy rather than couples work. These sessions are self-pay for Cigna members, with superbills provided.

Frequently asked questions

Does Turning Leaf accept Cigna?

No. We are out-of-network with Cigna. Cigna PPO members with out-of-network benefits can submit our superbills for partial reimbursement.

How much will Cigna reimburse for therapy?

Many Cigna PPO plans reimburse 50 to 80 percent of the allowed amount per session after the out-of-network deductible. Call Cigna to confirm your plan's specifics.

Why are you not in-network with Cigna?

Staying out-of-network with some carriers is what lets us keep longer sessions, careful matching, and depth-oriented work sustainable. We offset it with superbills after every session on request and in-network access to Aetna, BCBS plans, United, and Optum.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes your diagnosis, the service provided, and CPT codes, which you submit to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement.
