I love being a therapist and making ‘real’ and meaningful connections with those I work with. I strongly believe in the transformative potential of psychotherapy and that it is my job to create an environment where your innate capacity for growth, healing, and connection can awaken and make possible the changes in which you deeply desire.
I understand people to be unique and complex, as are the problems they face. From this perspective, I tend to see symptoms as a signal of something else that needs to be paid attention to – often deeper issues that have never been acknowledged, formulated, or processed. It is when we can develop a secure therapeutic relationship, that we can “go deeper” and understand the underlying experiences and processes that drive our thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and reactions to others. From here, longer lasting symptom relief and personally meaningful changes can be created and maintained long after therapy ends.
It is my goal to help create a therapeutic relationship where this can be possible. I am very interested in getting to know people on multiple levels, including their past or developmental experiences, who they are today, and how they interact with others and experience the world. The therapeutic process will allow us to create a real, experiential relationship where we can explore both from a historical, and “real-time” perspective, the painful feelings and thoughts, past experiences, and ways of interpreting or perceiving new experiences that often shape or perpetuate current problems. It is also through this relationship that powerfully transformative, emotionally-corrective, and deeply meaningful and healing experiences can be experienced and integrated into one’s being.
I understand that therapy of this kind requires a significant investment of time, money, energy, and emotional vulnerability. I do not take this lightly, and respect this by also seeing my role as a therapist as a significant investment and commitment as well. As such, I believe being a good therapist requires a dedication to continuous self-reflection and growth through regular personal therapy, consultation with peers and supervisors, and continuing education and training. These are values I hold near to my heart and live out to the best of my abilities, so that I can be the best possible version of myself for you and our work together.
